Fans should be excited for some big celebrity cameos in The Devil Wears Prada 2… but Sydney Sweeney WON’T be one of them after all!
Last summer, anticipation began to swirl amongst Sydney’s fandom when she was seemingly spotted on the film’s NYC set with Emily Blunt. In photos and videos that made their way online, Syd’s face is never shown, but her signature blonde locks were visible poking out from underneath the hood of a blue sweater.
Now, months later amid the release of the film, it’s been confirmed that the Anyone But You star DID film a scene — but it’s not going to see the light of day!

Over the weekend, ScreenRant asked TDWP2 writer Aline Brosh McKenna about the mystery surrounding Sydney’s alleged appearance on set. She said:
“There were a lot of photos from the set of various people. And then there were those memes, where it was like, ‘So-and-so is in the movie. So- and-so is in the movie.’ It became a running joke about who people had seen on set and were in the movie. It was one of the first ways actually, that I knew that we were sort of piquing people’s interest because there was constant… It became like, first, people were really speculating, and then people were just being silly.”
The scribe went on to confirm the 28-year-old is NOT in the final product.
So why is that??
Sydney has been no stranger to controversy over the past several months… from her American Eagle ad, to her ties to a conservative wave among young voters in the US, and her recent disturbing scenes in Euphoria season 3. There has certainly been a ton of debate circling her name. But according to the filmmakers, cutting her role ultimately boiled down to a “creative decision.”
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly on Tuesday, an insider revealed Sydney’s cameo took place during a scene where Anne Hathaway’s Andy Sachs, Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly, and Stanley Tucci’s Nigel Kipling track down Emily Blunt’s Emily Charlton in NYC. At the Dior HQ, Blunt’s character was dressing Sydney, who played herself in a brief role. But according to the insider, the three-minute scene felt out of place in the movie, so they axed it. The insider noted Sydney’s time was appreciated, and cutting her footage was a hard decision.
Oof!
Could the “creative decision” have had something to do with Sydney’s controversies? Who knows… But be on the look out for other celebs to pop up in the film!
