Tamar Braxton is sharing her truth, and it’s quite upsetting.
The singer and reality star appeared on Thursday’s episode of The Wendy Williams Show where she revealed a dark childhood trauma: she was molested by multiple “family members.”

The Braxton Family Values star explained cautiously:
“I’ve been battling myself about whether or not I want to say what happened or not … I’m Tamar and I’m real, right? A lot of things happened in my childhood that I was too afraid to talk about. Too ashamed to talk about. But the truth of the matter is I have been molested by both sides of my family.”
Wow.
The 41-year-old didn’t name her abusers in her interview, but she later explained her decision to reveal the secret in a lengthy Instagram post, writing:
“I decided to Tell Wendy and the world MY secret, MYSELF that I have been a victim of abuse not once, twice, ten, but multiple times by multiple ‘family members’ I’ve never told ANYONE other than Two people in my life and they both have held this close to them.”
Tamar went on to say in her post that she wanted to create a space where people feel comfortable sharing their own stories without fear of judgement. She then encouraged her followers to “tell your story and empower yourself starting today.”
