We don’t see many intimate interactions between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. For two of the biggest stars in the world, they’re a pretty private couple.
But after a huge game like Sunday’s AFC Championship — in which the Kansas City Chiefs pulled off a razor-thin win against the Buffalo Bills — emotions were flying too high out on that field! So all bets were off!
What’s the moment we witnessed?
OK, so the Chiefs are going back to the Super Bowl for the third straight year. This time, though, the big game is in New Orleans — a city that holds a lot of history for KillaTrav. And not all good stuff!
During a talk with Tay and his momma Donna Kelce after the game, Travis talked about looking forward to returning to the Big Easy. He said:
“I owe New Orleans a little somethin’.”
Tay asks if he’s referring to the “college” thing. Yep. She tells him flat-out:
“Yeah, we’re not going to Bourbon Street.”
Donna, maybe a little impressed, tells Tay, “You know your history.” So what’s this New Orleans thing from college?
Video: Taylor Was A BALL OF NERVES Watching Trav’s Game!
OK, so back when Trav was playing college football for the University of Cincinnati, he was supposed to play in the 2010 Sugar Bowl. But while he was down on the famously rowdy Bourbon Street in the city’s French Quarter on New Year’s Eve, he partied too hard before the game. He failed his drug test — positive for marijuana. And not only did he not get to play, the NCAA suspended him for the whole season, and he lost his scholarship. It was a really rough time. Trav had to move in with his big brother Jason Kelce — literally sleeping in the same room like they were 10 years old — and get a job as a telemarketer.
He worked hard to get back to playing and sticking to the straight and narrow, though it meant a demotion. He had been a quarterback, and they would only let him back on the team as a tight end.
Man, what a fateful failed drug test!
Of course, the rep he got from a blown drug test and year-long suspension haunted him for years, even keeping him from being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys. But his big bro vouched for him with coach Andy Reid, who drafted him to the Chiefs, where he’s been ever since. And the rest is football history.
Buuuuut he never did get to play that Sugar Bowl. So there’s something really cathartic for him in getting to play in the Super Bowl there. It’s like fulfilling a 15-year-old promise. Just two letters off! LOLz!
Of course, he’s a very different person now! He promised his mom he “wont be having as much fun” this time around, to which Donna replied:
“No, you won’t!”
Ha! We love that Tay and Donna are both on the same page telling this man to grow up and not be tempted to let the good times roll in New Orleans this time! LOLz!
