Taylor Swift made a lot of people happy — and a lot of folks angry — with her statement on Tuesday night.
If you didn’t see, after the debate, she officially endorsed Kamala Harris for president, once again rebuking Donald Trump and his hatred and “chaos.” She specifically called out reproductive and LGBTQ+ rights issues that were important to her.
This was after months of silence. Despite saying in 2020 that she had a responsibility to use her platform, she really hasn’t. So why did she finally speak out? In her post, she discussed her hand being forced by Trump posting that fake endorsement made by AI. After all, if he’s going to say she’s supporting him, she had to set the record straight. However, that was weeks ago, in mid-August. Why did she speak out after the debate?

A source told DailyMail.com on Wednesday she’d been going “back and forth” on whether to speak out:
“She had toyed with making a statement after the debate, but wasn’t 100 percent.”
Why not? Are these her beliefs or not? Well… there’s more factors now than her handlers. Notably one of her new besties is a Trump supporter. Awkward.
The insider says Trump’s performance in the debate was what broke the dam — notably his lies about Democrats wanting to “execute babies” in the ninth month of pregnancy or even after birth and his amplification of a racist hoax about Haitian immigrants eating people’s dogs and cats in Ohio. The insider says:
“She found his diatribe to be downright frightening… He was dishonest, arrogant, crass and the worst part about all of it was that he was unapologetic about it.”
Tay realized while watching she “had to speak out and pick sides for the safety of herself, her family, friends and fans”:
“[She knew] it was time to stand again on the side of history by supporting a candidate who could help create a country free from hate, inequality, division and racism… Aware of the immense political influence her voice and fanbase carry, Taylor endorsed Kamala — for herself, her fans, her rights as a woman, and even for her cat, Meredith.”
The right side of history? Hmm, that sounds familiar…
So what’s next? Will this statement be the extent of her support? Nope! The source claims:
“Taylor will likely be making a donation to the campaign.”
We’ve also heard her BF Travis Kelce will also make a statement supporting Kamala — which will be a big deal for an NFL star. But that’s just how committed he is to her. Er, we mean to women’s rights.
