Timothée Chalamet Says His Agent Once Told Him To ‘Put On Weight’ To Land More Movie Roles!

Timothée Chalamet is opening up about his history with body shaming in the movie industry.

The Call Me By Your Name star sat down for an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe on Monday and revealed that early on in his career, he was passed over for roles in big blockbusters because of the way his body looked. He explained:

“If I auditioned for The Maze Runner or Divergent, things of that variety that were popping when I was coming up, the feedback was always, ‘Oh, you don’t have the right body.’”

That must have been hard to hear for someone who was literally just a teen trying to make a name for himself all those years ago! We often talk about women being the victims of body-shaming, but let’s not forget men can be, too!

But it didn’t come solely from movie execs… Timmy’s own agent once even advised him to bulk up! The now 28-year-old told Zane:

“I had an agent that called me and said, ‘You gotta put on weight,’ basically, not aggressively, but you know.”

Ouch! Well, things obviously worked out for the Beautiful Boy star. He may not have landed the action lead of 2014’s The Maze Runner or Divergent, but he’s gone on to cultivate an impressive acting history and even an Oscar nom! And eventually DID become an action lead in the Dune series! And next month, Timmy will grace the big screen as Bob Dylan in biopic A Complete Unknown. And he says he relates to the singer more than we would have thought! He explained:

“I found my way into these very personalized movies. For [Bob], it was folk music. He couldn’t keep a rock ‘n’ roll band because they would all get hired by other kids that had more money, literally, in Minnesota. So for me, it was finding a very personal style movie — Call Me By Your Name or Beautiful Boy or Lady Bird or Little Women, Miss Stevens, Hot Summer Nights. Those were smaller budget but very… I don’t know how else to put it…. personable movies that started in this theatre space. This is where I found my rhythm, my confidence, my flow, whatever you want to call it.”

We think it’s safe to say he definitely HAS found his flow! And people LOVE it! Watch his full interview (below):
