Missing Trans Teen Died By Suicide - And Horrible Guys On X (Twitter) Are Mocking Her For It

A teen who went missing earlier this month was found dead on Sunday. 17-year-old Charlotte Fosgate was last seen on May 1 in Oak Grove, Oregon. She was seen as a particular risk to herself due to “significant mental health issues”, per the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office press release.

Fears for her wellbeing were greatly exacerbated by her final post on social media — a “pretty view” of a bridge in Portland followed by the words “long way down.” Haunting.

Charlotte did indeed die by suicide. She was found by rescue divers. A family friend confirmed the sad news on Facebook Tuesday morning, updating a post asking for help finding her:

“It is with great sadness that we have to announce that Charlotte has been located deceased. Please keep her family in your thoughts as they navigate this new normal without her, especially her mom, as Charlotte was her whole world.”

One of the most heartbreaking things we can imagine…

And yet. As you might imagine, if you haven’t been living under a rock the past 10 years… There was a rather loud and vulgar contingent on social media that found Charlotte’s passing hilarious. They found her post and wrote things like, “One less freak” and “Gravity did what the hormones couldn’t.”

They posted anti-trans memes, even cartoons mocking trans suicide. We won’t post the worst of it here. But we have to note, some of those comments got tens of thousands of likes.

This is the world crafted by the supposedly “Christian” right wing who have used the LGBT community for years to whip up fear and sow division. To turn a lack of understanding into a wealth of hate. All to gather more and more power. And along the way they’ve forgotten to even pay lip service to hating the sin, not the sinner. They are rejoicing, laughing at the death of a child. That’s how much they hate trans people. They’re laughing at a mother’s loss. And on X — the new Twitter, rather like the old 4chan — well, they’re well within their rights here.

Thankfully the comments section has also filled up with others who find them despicable and are speaking out:

“Why are people mocking this poor girls death. I never knew her but I never knew people were such scum bags as to insult her passing”

“Evil scum in the comments. That is a person. A human life is gone. You all have no heart, no humanity, no empathy. Celebrating bc she was trans? I hope you monsters burn. You all deserve the lonliness and insecurities.”

“The comments are absolutely disgusting, compassion is needed in for the Christian right”

“This is the most heartbreaking f**king thing i have ever read on this site and the replies make me want to be done with this s**t forever. I dont know what happened to you people, but its really sick. May the lord Jesus Christ have mercy on you. You wretches”

“17 years old. Very sad. Also sad that people rejoice in the suicide of a troubled child.”

“you deserved better, rest in peace”

Shame on every person out there laughing at this. Shame on everyone who can’t see a human being suffering and feel compassion. And especially shame on everyone exploiting the worst of humanity to get votes or money or whatever other grift.
