We are SO happy to see so much progress taking place in Cuba!
For the first time in the country’s history, aside from one lone reported wedding many years ago, a gay man has gotten married to a woman who had a sex-change operation that was paid for by Cuba!!!
The wedding between 37-year-old Wendy Iriepa and 31-year-old Ignacio Estrada took place on Saturday in Havana.
Here’s what Estrada had to say about his momentous wedding:
“This is the first wedding between a transsexual woman and a gay man. We celebrate it at the top of our voices and affirm that this is a step forward for the gay community in Cuba.”
Unfortunately, same-sex marriage is still illegal in the country, but this is definitely a big step in the right direction!
Keep moving forward, Cuba! We’re proud!
