Travis Kelce Explains THAT Sad Mid-Game Look Amid Chiefs Struggles Sans Taylor Swift -- And Owns Up To Being At Fault!

The Kansas City Chiefs are still undefeated… but they haven’t exactly been winning pretty.

Two Sundays ago, they dispatched the lowly Cincinnati Bengals at home in Kansas City — but only by a single point. And then this past Sunday, they very narrowly (and very infamously) won an underwhelming road game against the Atlanta Falcons. So, yeah, they’re 3-0, but the defending Super Bowl champs haven’t exactly been rocketing to victory by huge margins!

BTW, we say “very infamously” up top because, well, poor ol’ Travis Kelce was riding the struggle bus for much of that game in the Peach State this past Sunday! As we’ve reported, with his mega-star girlfriend Taylor Swift skipping out in the big game in the big A, he looked defeated as f**k on the sideline as his beloved squad struggled to get past the weak Falcons. So defeated that his glazed-over look instantly became a meme!

That’s football in 2024. LOLz!! But they won in the end. And now Travis is shedding some light on what went down!

On Wednesday’s episode of the New Heights podcast which he co-hosts with his older brother, recently-retired football star Jason Kelce, TayTay’s 34-year-old boyfriend admitted that things haven’t been going great for the Chiefs:

“We’re finding ways to win games, but we’re not playing our best football. Everybody can clean it up. I think everyone saw my drop in the fourth quarter with that crucial third down.”

Noting that he himself is to blame for “trying to do too much before putting the ball away,” and admitting that he needs to focus on “making the play in big time moments,” the tight end went on:

“I think with how defenses are playing us right now, I’m not really getting a lot of opportunities to make plays down the field, but not using that as an excuse. Moving forward, [I’m] still trying to make sure that I can help the team out in that regard.”

Honestly, we LOVE to see a man who takes responsibility! Dude’s not playing his best football right now, but he’s not making any excuses for it! Just owning it! You picked ’em right, Taylor!!

Looking ahead to this coming Sunday, the Chiefs have a massive game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Not only is it another road matchup out in El Lay, but it’s also the squad’s first AFC West divisional game of the year. So, they need to win games like this if they want to win their division and be in the driver’s seat come playoff time!

Jason pointed out something interesting during the podcast, BTW — that Travis’ stats are way down this year. After three games, Kelce has just eight catches for 69 yards and no touchdowns. Compare that to this time last year, when he had 17 catches for 155 yards and two touchdowns after three games. A huge drop in production! No wonder Trav looked so bewildered and beleaguered on the sideline down in the ATL!

After Jason pondered whether teams were covering him differently to take him out of the game, Travis defended his beloved quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the rest of his team by saying:

“Whatever it is, it’s football baby! Come on now, I’m not getting caught up in getting the targets and all that. I just wanna have a successful offense, and I think Pat’s doing a great job of finding the open guy and making the right decisions right now.”

And the star tight end continued:

“You just wanna make sure that you clean up all the mistakes, that you’re making sure you’re communicating so everybody understands exactly where we’re going moving forward. And nobody does it better than Coach Reid and Pat Mahomes in that regard.”

And then, after Jason tried to acknowledge how it was understandable for Travis to be “frustrated” by not being open to catch passes and score touchdowns thus far in the young season, the veteran star still refused to make things about himself! Travis argued:

“I’ve had a lot of catches in this league, man. I’m not worried about the catches and the yards and all of that. I have the most fun when I get the ball thrown my way, I mean, who doesn’t? But it has everything to do with execution and just making sure we’re doing whatever we can to win these football games, man, and that’s always gonna be the goal.”

We really, really, really love to see it! Dude’s humble, takes responsibility for his f**k-ups, and doesn’t need to be the one in the spotlight so long as his squad is still winning games at the end of the day! Travis is a true king… and perfect for a true queen like Taylor!! So, uh, when’s that proposal coming, anyways? Asking for a friend! (OK, it’s us. The friend is us.)
