Travis Kelce is taking his new gig SUPER seriously!
As we’ve been following, the trailers for Ryan Murphy‘s Grotesquerie have been slowly rolling out, giving us more peeks into what the show is. It’s not true crime, it’s not American Horror Story… It kind of looks like it falls somewhere in between.
Of course, the talk of social media isn’t just Niecy Nash-Betts‘ exciting detective role in the FX series but the NFL star’s big acting break as well! You can see a small snippet in the trailer (below):
All of us are curious as to what Trav is going to bring to the table when it comes to acting — and according to the creator himself, the 34-year-old has put in some WORK.

During a virtual press conference Monday, Ryan talked about his first time chatting with Travis on the premise of him making a jump into acting. The showrunner said he told the Kansas City Chiefs tight end one day, “I’ll keep you in mind, and maybe we’ll come up with something.”But that wasn’t going to cut it for Trav, who is used to pushing for that touchdown! Trav was determined to do it “now”:
“[Travis said] ‘no, I want to do it now. I have three months now and I really would love to have anything.'”
Sounds like he was up for even the smallest of roles!
At the time, Ryan was in pre-production with Grotesquerie and decided to write a character just for the football star. It ended up being a great choice, too, as he called Travis’ acting skills “amazing”:
“The thing about Travis is, I directed the first episode he did with Niecy, and Niecy and I just instantly loved him and took him by the hand and let him know that he would not, could not fail. And he really was amazing.”
Ryan also revealed the tight end used an acting coach for “several months” in order to prepare for filming:
“He showed up off book. He knew everybody’s lines. He was so professional. He was so committed. He kept saying to me, ‘I’m real coachable, coach me, coach me.’ So I did, and he ended up being a delight. I would love to continue working with him on this and other things. I cannot say enough about him as a leader. He’s just the kindest, sweetest. … Everything you think about him is true.”
Aww!
Well, this just makes the upcoming premiere all the more exciting! It finally premieres on FX this Wednesday, so guess we’ll find out how well it worked for ourselves. Will U be watching, Perezcious readers?
