Urban Outfitters Dropped Controversial Depression Shirt, But Is That Enough To Keep Your Business?

Do YOU still support Urban Outfitters after their latest mishap?
How far is TOO far?
That question seems to come up often in the fashion world!
Urban Outfitters has had it’s fair share of upset customers in the past, for everything from a gang-related shirt to booze-promoting attire and more.
But many have been astonished by the retailer├óΓé¼Γäós latest misstep — the sale of a shirt COVERED in the word ├óΓé¼┼ôdepression├óΓé¼┬¥!
After a plethora of complaints from people battling the disorder, the store finally had the shirt pulled from their inventory with the following explanation:

“We did not create the Depression brand logo tee shirt and it most certainly was not a social statement of any kind. It was brought to our attention that customers were offended by the product. Though is was not intended to exploit mental illness, we respectfully removed the product as to not further upset anyone. We’re sorry to those offended by the tee. We were trying to support a small brand, not glamorize mental illness in any way.”

Even if the brand named Depression owed its logo to the idea of an indent, if Urban had just looked at or thought about the shirt for a minute, they probably could’ve seen the controversy coming a mile away.
And when taken into account with all their other offenses in the past, we wanna know:
