Grandmother Reportedly Mauled To Death By Her Own Hunting Dogs: 'Nothing Short Of A Nightmare'

Arlene Renna mauled to death by dogs.

OMG!!!

A New York woman is dead after allegedly being mauled by her pet dogs, the New York State Police say.

According to a press release, Arlene Renna’s husband found her on the floor of her living room unconscious after he arrived home at around 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Emergency responders were called to the Pleasant Valley residence, but the 67-year-old unfortunately died at the scene from her injuries.

Police determined the “wounds and circumstances were consistent with a dog attack,” the statement added, noting Renna kept two coonhounds as pets and “no one else was home at the time of the attack.”

It’s unclear how long the couple owned the hunting dogs, or what may have prompted the attack. However, police said the investigation “did not reveal any indications of foul play.”

Renna’s ex-husband John Taylor confirmed her death in a devastating Facebook post on Sunday, writing his “high school sweetheart” had “died accidentally at home” the previous day, the same day as their daughter Jillian’s 31st birthday. He wrote:

“It is nothing short of a nightmare. Arlene was the kindest, most gentle, giving and wonderful woman, there was no better mother, no better grandmother.”

Renna previously worked as a nurse, according to Taylor, and as a social worker “helping families in crisis.” She also worked as a volunteer for non-profit parenting education service The Center for Parents and Children.

The dog owner had three children and one grandchild with Taylor before they split after 21 years of marriage. She later remarried. Her ex added in his post:

“Everything she did she did for others. People like Arlene can never be replaced, they can only live in our hearts forever, and we should all learn by their example to be better people, to try to be more like them.”

Both dogs have since been taken by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in Dutchess County, and a judge will decide what happens to them.

Per the American Kennel Club, coonhounds are generally “tenacious” while hunting their prey, but are said to be “even-tempered” and “mellow” otherwise.

Our hearts go out to Renna’s loved ones in the wake of such an awful, violent tragedy.
