They must have been on their way to a wig party!
Two women flying from Sao Paulo to Madrid were busted by Spanish police trying to smuggle cocaine into the country – under their wigs!
How much could even fit under a wig? More than you might think! The women, aged 18 and 28, wore a combined 5.4 lbs (or 2.4 kilos) of cocaine on their heads!
The women apparently covered six small drug pouches in a black sock that they hid under wigs of long, curly hair. And they almost got away with it too! A police statement reported:
“This new method of smuggling narcotics is very elaborate and difficult to detect due to the realism of the fake hair. The packages were perfectly adhered and did not stick out from under the wigs, which made the narcotics imperceptible.”
Drug smugglers have used everything from plastic bananas to live puppies to try to get by customs, but this is apparently a first for the Spanish police.
Something tells us they’ll be brushing up on their procedures in the future!
