New Mother Meets Son For First Time After Waking Up From Coronavirus Coma! Watch!

Yanira Soriano New Mother Meets Baby Son First Time Pregnant Coronavirus

Such a beautiful moment in a sea of tragedy!

Pregnant Long Island resident Yanira Soriano was already in her third trimester when she got infected by the novel coronavirus. Her symptoms got so bad she had to go to the hospital — where she was diagnosed with COVID-19 and pneumonia.

The 36-year-old had to be put on a ventilator, and on April 3 — when Soriano was just 34 weeks pregnant — doctors at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore performed an emergency caesarean section. Unfortunately, the new momma wasn’t awake for any of this.

Dr. Benjamin Schwartz, chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Southside Hospital, explained:

“Because of the critical nature of her pneumonia, she had to go under general anesthesia and be put into a medically induced coma and be put on a ventilator. She was not awake when her baby was born and did not hear the baby cry or have any opportunity to meet him right after his birth.”

Soriano was returned to the intensive care unit at Southside while her newborn was transferred to a children’s hospital in NYC.

So sad!

But thankfully this story has a happy ending. Soriano survived for eleven days on that ventilator. And she BEAT the COVID-19! No mean feat, as Dr. Schwartz pointed out:

“It’s an incredibly proud moment for not just the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology but for Southside Hospital and the entire team that works here. It takes many, many people over many, many shifts to provide the level of care that this patient needed.”

After nearly two weeks, Yanira was discharged and wheeled out of the hospital to the cheers of dozens of hospital staff. But as nice as we’re sure the applause was, it was nothing compared to finally getting to meet her son, Walter, who was brought to her on the sidewalk in front of the hospital.

It wasn’t just a beautiful moment between mother and child but an inspiration for thousands on the front lines of this battle with the pandemic. Dr. Schwartz said:

“As you know, many patients that end up on a ventilator with a COVID-pneumonia do not survive, and the fact that this mom not only survived but was able to get out of her wheelchair and walk into her car and hold her baby gives us all incredible hope for future patients and our existing patients that have COVID disease.”

Such a nice ending to a scary story! Watch the magical moment (below)!
