Zoey 101 Alum Saves Infant Baby From Car Accident After Parents Pass Out From Heroin Use!

Logan never pegged us as a hero in Zoey 101.
But IRL, Matthew Underwood grew up to be an actual lifesaver when he rescued a 4-month-old baby from a serious car accident!
On Thursday night, the Nickelodeon alum reportedly observed a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign in Port St. Lucie, Florida before swerving across six lanes of traffic and crashing into a tree.
The 26-year-old ran over to the 2003 white Saturn after the crash, where he found a female and male passed out from suspected drug use. After hearing crying, Underwood discovered there was an unharmed infant in the back seat.

Port St. Lucie police arrived at the scene at around 8:30 p.m. to find Jessica Hand (insert, left) “unconscious behind the wheel of the car with a syringe in her arm” and John Rodriguez (insert, right) lying “unconscious in the back seat with a syringe next to him and an infant boy in an unsecured car seat alongside him.”
Both 34-year-old parents were removed from the car and administered first aid, while “[Underwood] removed the infant boy and placed him next to the officer on scene,” according to the press release.
All three crash victims were transported to a local medical center. Meanwhile, police found Rodriquez to be in possession of Alprazolam, a controlled substance, and a broken pipe “suspected to be used for smoking narcotics.”

Hand later confessed to buying drugs that night and “decided to try heroin” the night of the crash. She was arrested for child neglect and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Rodriguez was arrested for child neglect, possession of controlled substance without prescription, possession of drug paraphernalia, and violation of probation warrant after both passed out in the car driving with their infant.

The child is in the custody of a family member. Speaking to local press, Underwood said he hopes the parents will “wake up and want their child back so much, want their life together, that they’ll get clean.”
We couldn’t agree more. Watch the news report HERE to hear the former actor recount the story.
