As we mentioned earlier this month, Jennifer Aniston is set to produce and star in The Goree Girls, which is being directed by Michael Sucsy of Grey Gardens.
The film is based on the book by John Lee Hancock and deals with eight female prison inmates in an country band in Texas back in the 1940s.
And although the movie sounded pretty cheesy to us before, we’re now thinking it sounds pretty awful. Turns out Maniston is actually going to be singing in the flick!
Our ears are already hurting.
Sucsy claims Maniston “can sing. And she’s going to learn how to play the Dobro [guitar].”
He adds:
“These women learned to harmonize and they learned to play instruments. They weren’t these amazing, accomplished singers who banded together. That’s what’s interesting about it. It’s not just like, ‘Hey, you can play the guitar, I can play the piano, I can play the harmonica. Let’s put a band together.’ It’s like, ‘We have to get out of jail, and if we have to put a band together to do that, then that’s what we’re going to do.’ ”
Thankfully he’s planning to cast real musicians alongside Maniston to be part of the band.
But better be great musicians in order to make Maniston sound good!
