But this year's event, aptly dubbed All Hail The Queens, was all about that girl power!
Broadcast live for the first time in its history, Monday night's ceremony paid homage to the female trailblazers who burst into the patriarchal genre to make their voices heard — and were honored with AH-Mazing tribute performances!
Hosted by Eve, the evening began with an inspiring statement from Black Lives Matter founders Darnell Moore and Alicia Garza — and also included a taped appearance by First Lady Michelle Obama honoring the women of hip hop!
That's why we're SO excited the sequel is only a couple months away, with all the stars returning including Dave Franco and Rose Byrne – PLUS newcomers Chloë Grace Moretz, Selena Gomez, and LL Cool J joining in on the fun!

Lip Sync Battle has only been on the air for 10 months, but thanks to some heavy star power it's already solidified its place in pop culture.
Well, it looks like Nickelodeon wants a piece of Spike's pie, because it was announced on Monday that the networks are teaming up for Lip Sync Battle Jr!
Executive Producers Casey Patterson and Jay Peterson shared a joint statement praising their kid-friendly installment of the game show, saying:
The Grammys were absolutely spectacular Monday night and were filled with several incredible performances.
One artist we missed out on though was Rihanna as it was revealed she had to pull out at the last minute due to doctors orders after she was diagnosed with bronchitis. However, she did take to Twitter to apologize saying:
Though we're bummed we didn't get to see RiRi's performance of Kiss Me Better, we're glad James Corden could dish some deets about what her performance was supposed to be on the Late Late Show Monday night!
Unfortunately while we don't get a ton of details, we know the 27-year-old had an "'80s talk show thing" planned as part of the show.
Ch-ch-check out Corden reveal what his role was supposed to be in the Barbados beauty's number as well as how LL Cool J saved his Grammys day (below)!
The Grammys red carpet wouldn't be complete without the man of the hour!
LL Cool J stepped on the scene like he owns the place, because let's be real, he basically does!
Wearing a classic black three-piece tux, bow tie, and his signature flat cap, the 48-year-old host looked classic next to his stunning wife Simone Smith.
Miz Smith matched her long tresses to her purple-midnight blue outfit that hugged her figure in all the right places and had just the right amount of sparkle for music's biggest night!
But wait… it gets better! It's actually a jumper!
Take a closer look (below)!
This is so exciting!
The Grammys are all about honoring those who've made sweet, sweet music and so it comes as no surprise that 2016's MusiCares Person of the Year is Lionel Richie!
While that's AH-Mazing news by itself, we've got another exciting announcement because it was revealed on Tuesday that Demi Lovato, Meghan Trainor, John Legend, and Luke Bryan are all set to perform a tribute to Richie at the awards show on Monday.
The four artists will unite to salute the All Night Long singer as they perform several classic Lionel songs!
Not only that, but the 66-year-old will
