miles obrien pbs cnn reporter arm amputated minor injury asia

That's right, we said MINOR injury. Meaning, it wasn't serious.

Not at first, anyway, but the accident happened while Mike O'Brien was on assignment in Asia — and now he's said earlier this month, he had to get his arm amputated just above the elbow.

Apparently after the injury he was diagnosed with "acute compartment syndrome", which blocks blood flow in an enclosed space in the body… and he was given the decision between 'a life and a limb.'

So he had it properly removed!

The incredible thing is that Miles has continued working for the network despite the surgery.

Now, we bet you're all wondering what the minor injury was, right? Well, it happened when he

Can White Rice Increase Your Chances For Type 2 Diabetes?

White Rice health concerns

We hope not, but the Harvard School of Public Health keeps scaring the crap out of us with all of the recent research being released.

First scientists found that red meat may be responsible for 1 out of every 10 early deaths, then they published a study suggesting one sugar-sweetened drink a day increases a man's risk for heart disease by 20%, and NOW researchers are saying that eating white rice could increase the chances of a diabetes diagnosis!

Vaccine Resistant Bird Flu Spreading In Asia

Bird FLu spreading

Oh no! The bird flu is back and possibly deadlier than ever!

According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, a mutant strain of H5N1 that is resistant to existing vaccines is spreading in China and Vietnam.

While the virus seemed to be contained after shrinking from 4000 outbreaks in bird populations at its peak to 302, nearly 800 cases were reported in 2010-2011.

8 people have died from the mutated strain of the bird flu in Cambodia alone and officials are reporting that "wild birds may introduce the virus, but people's actions in poultry production and marketing spread it."

So scary! And just in time for the terrifying new film Contagion, which may be hitting a little too close to home for the Asian film market.

SH'BAM! Sweeping Asian Fitness Clubs

SH'BAM instructor

SH'BAM! It's as fun to do as it is to say!

SH'BAM is the newest worldwide exercise craze which is already practiced at gyms across Europe and the United States, but has recently launched in Asian Celebrity Fitness clubs.

SH'BAM (pronounced as She-bam) is an uptempo dance, mixed with modernised Latin beats, and accompanied by the hottest music played at nightclubs around the world.

Each sh'session usually lasts about 45 minutes with 12 hot tracks playing to move, groove, and shake your booty to.

The dance class was developed by group fitness company Les Mills, which says on their website:

"Your instructor will introduce you to the basic choreography and coach you through each of the simple steps – and it’s up to you to add in as much sass and style as you like. SH’BAM™ is for people of all fitness levels, and we promise you’ll get fitter doing this class regularly"

We know we're not supposed to judge a book by it's cover, but judging by the name, we're going to love this. Try it out!

SH'BAM! (why can't all words be this fun!?)
