The Car Of The Future Is SOO Eco-Friendly Thanks To Leaves And Sunshine!!!

artificial leaf technology

WooHoo!! We LOVE the Earth!!

Simulating the way leaves harness the energy of the sun, scientists have a discovered a way to use "artificial leaf technology" to possibly powers ships and planes…. and even cars!!!

According to Professor Richard Cogdell:

What you need is to be able to lock that energy up in some sort of storage fluid that’s available on demand, and that’s what fuel is. To really sustain our way of life after the oil runs out we have to be able to make, renewably and sustainably, dense portable fuels for transport, especially for aeroplanes and ships. We’re looking at photosynthesis to see whether we can learn to copy it in a more robust and efficient way. What we’ve realised in just the last couple of months is that we should be able to use electricity to power these reactions. I would be very disappointed if this wasn’t working in the real world in 30 years time.

Uhm, ya!!

We'd be totes disappointed too!!

Oil is soooo last century!! Time to be smart about the way we use our energy!!!

The Prince Of Wales Visited A Solar Energy Project In South Africa

The Prince of Wales visited an environmental project at town in South Africa.

In Kuyasa Township, residents are encouraged to add solar panels to their roofs to provide green electricity for their homes.

We could imagine with all the sunshine they get how amazing it would be for them to be able to power a whole village by themselves.

Check out the above video to see the British Royal playing with some local children.

PETA Asks Pope To Use A Leather-Fee Popemobile

PETA Asks Pope To Use A Leather-Fee Popemobile

Bold move PETA!

The animal rights group formally known as PETA has urged Pope Benedict XVI to "truly go green" and insist that the next popemobile is made without leather.

PETA said it has written to the pope with the request following the Vatican's confirmation Wednesday that Germany's Mercedes-Benz auto company is making a study of a hybrid, energy-saving popemobile.

The car would replace the current Mercedes vehicle used when the pope travels abroad.

The Vatican press office said Friday it hadn't seen the letter and couldn't comment.

Benedict has made conserving resources an important concern of his papacy, so there's a chance he might go along with it.

Rebecca Romijn: My Husband Is Just Like Our Dog

Rebecca Romijn Says My Husband Is The Just Like Our Dog

Such a sweet wife!

What does Rebecca Romijn say her husband, Jerry O'Connell, has in common with their family dog Binn?

According to Rebecca, everything.

"I always say that Binn and Jerry are the male versions of each other. [They both have] just endless amounts of energy, like to exercise a lot, and are very positive in life. They're dog male counterparts and human counterparts of each other."

Rebecca says Binn proves he's the man by taking care of the couple's little twin daughters.

"Our German Shepherd is their personal bodyguard. It's so sweet, he just wants to be near them wherever they are, to the point where they're like, 'Get away, stop licking my face!'"

Licking faces huh? We'd like to know if thats something else Jerry and the dog have in common.

Man Finds A Mouse In His Monster Energy Drink

man finds mouse in energy drink

Ewwww!

Turns out energy drinks are as bad for mice as they are for you.

A Federal Way man has filed a lawsuit against the maker of Monster Energy Drinks. He claims he found a dead mouse at the bottom of his can, and he has the lab work to prove it.

"Anytime anyone talks about monster, I just get that sick feeling in my stomach,"

says Vitaliy Sulzhik, who didn't realize there was a mouse in his drink until he had finished it.

"I put it down and I felt it was still heavy. So I backwashed it and all this debris went into my mouth. Then I looked in the can and I saw the tip of the tail and I vomited everywhere."

It was a dead mouse inside the can.

X-rays and autopsies showed the mouse didn't suffer any trauma, like from a mouse trap, nor was it killed using poison. In other words, there were no signs the mouse was killed and then forced through the opening.

Hansen Beverage Company is aware of the findings, but still refuses to believe Sulzhik.

Oriental Wasp Is The First Animal To Harvest Solar Energy

Filed under: Wacky, Tacky & TrueScience!InsectsAmazingWildlife

Oriental hornet can harness solar energy

A breakthrough discovery has found the Oriental hornet is the first animal capable harvesting sun light into solar power.

Scientists eye brows were raised when they noticed that the Oriental wasp, unlike other wasps, were most active in the middle of the day.

After investigating the phenomena, scientists discovered that an Oriental hornet's shell can trap sunlight, while the pigment xanthopterin converts it to energy.

While, there isn't enough energy found in these little insects to consider utilizing their special skill as a new energy source for us, scientists, like the studies leader Marian Plotkin, still find it fascinating, saying:

"We've seen solar harvesting in plants and bacteria, but never before in animals."

Nature never ceases to amaze us.

Maybe they will find this ability in more animals or insects upon further study and might better understand how to utilize solar energy for our own use.
