PETA says an Animal is not an "it."
The latest translation of the New International Version of the Bible now uses gender-inclusive language such as "he or she" instead of just "he." Bravo (and brava) Bible editors!
But PETA says the now gender-friendly scripture still discriminates against animals.
The organization has petitioned the Committee on Bible Translation to suggest that its next translation remove "speciesist" language, by referring to animals as "he or she" instead of "it."
“When the Bible moves toward inclusively in one area…it wasn’t much of a stretch to suggest they move toward inclusively in this area. Language matters. Calling an animal 'it' denies them something. They are beloved by God. They glorify God,"
said Bruce Friedrich, PETA's VP for policy.
Amid fears that falling birds and dying fish could be a signal for the apocalypse or biblical plague (who would ever say such a ridiculous thing?), Anderson Cooper turned to the big guy himself for answers.
That's right. Kirk Cameron.
If you believe the born-again Christian star of the Left Behind movie series has any kind of heavenly perspective, then your prayers have been answered.
While appearing on Anderson Cooper 360, the former Growing Pains star said:
"Well, I first think that they ought to call a veterinarian, not me. You know, I'm not the religious-conspiracy-theorist go-to guy, particularly, but I think it's really kind of silly to try to equate birds falling out of the sky with some kind of an end-times theory."
Mike Seaver Kirk really knows his stuff too, as he continued:
"People love to find codes and signs of future events and see if they can decipher them before anybody else, but birds falling from the sky? That has to do more with pagan mythology; the direction that the birds flew told some of the followers of some of those legends that the gods were either pleased or displeased with them."
That's good enough for us. We'll turn to religious fanaticism when pigs start falling from the sky instead.
