McDonald's Pulls Radio Ad After Angering Pit Bull Owners

pit-bull-mcdonalds-ad.jpg

McDonald's has pulled a radio ad for their new McBites which are like mini chicken nuggets.

The radio ad listed four things that are riskier than trying new McDonald's McBites.

They were:

"-Shaving your hair just to see what it would look like.

-Naming your son Sue.

-Giving your friends your Facebook password.

-Petting a stray pit bull."

The last one has angered pit bull owners who are tired of the unfair bias against their dogs, who when raised properly can be sweeter and more loyal than any other breed out there.

It prompted the creation of the Facebook page: Pit Bulls Against McDonald's.

McDonald's said:

"The ad was insensitive in its mention of pit bulls. We apologize.

As soon as we learned of it, we tracked the source and had the local markets pull the ad immediately. We'll do a better job next time.

It's never our intent to offend anyone with how we communicate news about McDonald's."

We think it's a smart move to pull the ad but the damage may have already been done.

We wonder how many pit bull owners are going to risk eating McBites…

Celebs Against McDonalds

zooey-deschanel-hates-mdons.jpg

Back in November, an undercover video showed extreme mistreatment of egg-laying hens at Sparboe Farms, who supplies McDonalds.

McDonalds quickly dropped the company but many celebs feel that that's not enough.

A letter was penned to Jim Skiner, the CEO of McDonalds.

Several celebs, including Ryan Gosling, Zooey Deschanel and Alicia Silverstone signed the letter which encourages McDonalds to buy from a facilities who uses 100% cage-free hens.

An excerpt from the letter reads:

"While McDonald's has already established a 100% cage-free purchasing policy in Europe, your U.S. restaurants continue to support egg factory farms that confine hens for most of their lives in cages so small they can’t even spread their wings.nearly anything that comes naturally to them. Common sense tells us that animals with legs and wings should be given the basic freedom to move.

Sadly, there is not a single federal law to protect hens from cruelty from the time they hatch to the time they are killed. While McDonald's brags about the "billions and billions served," millions of hens exploited for your restaurants are being grossly underserved. In fact, these animals are being abused in ways that would land your egg suppliers in jail, if dogs or cats were the victims."

You can check out the whole letter HERE.

Lets hope McDonalds gets the hint and switches to a completely cruelty-free supplier.

The HSUS Sends Legal Demand For McRib Farm Records

pigs-in-gestation-gcages.jpg

Due to concern over the cruel confinement of pigs at Smithfield Farms (the suppliers of the pork for the McRib), the HSUS has served the farm with a legal demand for records documenting the pig's conditions.

They believe Smithfield has broken their promise to stop confining pregnant mama pigs in crates for nearly their entire lives.

The pigs are impregnated over and over again for the course of their lives to keep a steady flow of pork coming through the farm.

Smithfield farms said in 2007 they would stop using the crates in ten years. They took back that promise in 2009, citing economic reasons. But recently they have been constantly growing as a company.

A rep for the HSUS said:

"Smithfield has refused to answer basic questions about when it will finally get rid of gestation crates. If Smithfield is truly committed to ending its practice of locking pigs in cramped cages that prevent them from even turning around for months on end, it should produce the records that prove it."

As a shareholder in Smithfield, the HSUS has the legal right to inspect corporate records and review data directly.

Let's hope they get to the bottom of this so we can finally save the pigs.

The HSUS Sues The McRib!

pig-hsush-lawsiti.jpg

Well, more like Smithfield Farms, where the pork for the McRib is raised.

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) announced that it had filed an SEC complaint against Smithfield Farms over the cruel and unusual conditions in which the pigs are kept.

Last year, the HSUS got gruesome footage from a Smithfield facility of animal abuse and tried to take action, but clearly, the McRib is back.

The McRib has always stirred controversy and finds itself in the public eye quite a lot, so the HSUS is hoping that maybe now is the time to strike, while people are still listening.

We don't really understand the appeal of the McRib other than it's "limited time only" appeal. Also the fact that it contains chemicals that are also used to make gym mats springy.

Seriously.

Even if the McRib doesn't go away soon, let's hope the HSUS saves the piggies!

Ryan Gosling Stands Up For Chickens

Ryan Gosling Peta Chickens USDA

This man is a hero!

Not only did he stop a street fight earlier this month, he is also helping PETA urge the U.S. Department of Agriculture to revoke its approval of foam-based extermination.

The method kills birds in a torturous process that can take up to fifteen minutes. The stress they endure in their final minutes is like that of being buried alive.

This is unacceptable.

In a beautiful letter, Ryan Gosling wrote:

If dogs and cats were killed in this way, the person committing these acts would be charged with cruelty to animals.

He continued, asking the USDA to only approve of humane methods, including an alternative that uses carbon dioxide to painlessly render birds unconscious.

He's also written to KFC and McDonald's in the past too.

This man is amazing — on and off screen! Thanks for being such a great role model, Ryan!!
