Benny Blanco is talking about the start of his relationship with Selena Gomez!
While speaking to Spanish magazine El País, Benny opened up about this relationship like never before. He said before they went public — which started with hints way back in July 2023 — they’d been dating for a WHILE. He explained on Sunday:
“We kept our relationship private for a long time, about eight or nine months.”
Plenty of time to enjoy the honeymoon phase without prying eyes! Smart! And impressive they were able to keep it quiet for so long!

But he actually shared a super sad fact that happened during this time, too. Benny said Selly actually asked him if he was “sure” he wanted to be in a relationship with her because of her fame and the public’s opinion:
“And she asked me, ‘Are you sure you want to do this? I understand if you want us to just be friends.'”
Aww…
But, as you can see, that didn’t stop them from pursuing their relationship:
“And then I said, ‘You know what? Screw it.’ We’re lucky because we both have friends and family we’ve known since before all this, and we’re surrounded by a good group of people we love.”
And as far as how he deals with “public scrutiny,” the record producer confessed:
“I don’t like to expose my life. Famous people are under constant scrutiny: if you say one thing, it’s wrong, and if you say another, it’s also wrong. I’d like to have more privacy. I suppose I’m getting on in years: I belong to that transitional generation where social media didn’t exist when I was a child.”
He added:
“Maybe I’ll occasionally post a picture of my wife or some delicious dish I’ve tried, but I hardly ever post anything on my Instagram that isn’t work-related.”
It seems like Selena and Benny are both in good places now, which is wonderful! It was just meant to be!
