If you’ve ever been to the Denver International Airport — or even if you haven’t — we have a story for you! Buckle up! It’s VERY creepy!
If you’re not well versed on the DEN lore, it’s home to a whole HOST of conspiracy theories. From creepy murals placed throughout, to reports of a supposed blue horse with red eyes standing outside, to the alleged underground tunnels. If you choose to go down those rabbit holes, good luck. We have a feeling you won’t want to fly to or from there afterwards! But today, we’re focusing on another spooky story making its way around the web involving a frequent traveler and a strange man.
In a video sweeping TikTok, horror aficionado @ashleeinc tells the story of a woman named Kate who travels often for work. For one trip, Kate was at the Denver International Airport. Once she got through security, she grabbed a coffee and headed to her gate like normal. While on the way, though, she passed a weird mural. The narrator didn’t specify which mural or in what terminal, but as Kate walked by, she noticed a man (not pictured above) standing completely still amid the mass rush of fellow travelers. He was standing “across the hallway from where the mural was, and he was just staring directly at it.”

Kate “couldn’t put her finger on it, but something about the man seemed off. He wasn’t looking at his phone, he didn’t have any luggage with him, but the way that he was watching people and smiling to himself gave her the creeps.”
Eerie!
Kate didn’t notice anything obvious that the man could have been smiling at, so she decided to just carry on with her day and walk past him. Once she boarded her flight, she made it to her aisle seat in row 18. After sitting there for 10-15 minutes, the man who was staring at the mural boarded, walked to HER row, and sat in the seat directly next to her! OMG!
“She notices he has nothing with him — no phone, no luggage that he stored … he just sits down.”
Kate opted to just plug in her earphones to try to shake off her eerie feeling. But she couldn’t help but pay attention to him as he intensely watched each and every passenger board and take their seat. At one point, a mother carrying a sleeping toddler stood behind Kate’s row as they waited to get seated. The young boy woke up, looked at the man, got scared, then buried his face back into his mom’s shoulder… and the strange man “looked very disappointed that this happened.” After that, the man stopped watching passengers board and turned his attention to the window.
Huh.
Later, once the flight attendants began their safety demonstrations, Kate noticed the man was watching them “very intently.” Which in and of itself isn’t too odd… We mean, that’s definitely knowledge every flyer should pay attention to! However, Kate noticed that the man began mimicking their movements, “like he was practicing doing it.”
“Kate assumed at this point that this must be this man’s first time flying.”
That thought was “reinforced” when the airplane started taxiing, because the man kept leaning forward to look out the window. As they moved down the runway, he said:
“This is really something”
The sentiment made Kate laugh, so she straight up asked him if it was his first time flying, to which he confirmed it was. He then leaned back in his seat and quietly said:
“I can’t believe we really did it.”
WTF…
As the passengers (not pictured above) took off and the city’s skyline disappeared under the clouds, the man reached out and touched the window beyond the woman sitting in the widow seat. He then asked Kate what clouds are made of. She told him mostly water, and he said he assumed it’d be something “heavier.” Kate smiled, but the man kept pressing. He noted how different clouds look from above, then asked Kate if she’s afraid of the sky. She said she wasn’t afraid of flying, but he corrected her:
“No, not flying. The sky!”
Kate didn’t respond because she got another wave of the “creeps.” She didn’t take her headphones out again until after the flight attendant came and asked if she wanted a refreshment. However, Kate noticed the attendant did not ask the man the same question, but DID ask the third person in their row, who was sitting in the window seat.
Kate noticed the man “didn’t blink” or ever “adjust his seat,” and when the flight attendant returned to bring the gal in the window seat her coffee, the man said to Kate:
“Do you know how remarkable this is?”
She responded:
“The flight?”
And strangely, he said:
“No, nevermind.”
Ummm… What??
At a later point, sunlight came into the cabin and shined on the man’s hand, and he looked at it “and mouthed something.”
Kate took off her headphones to ask what he said, and he said:
“It’s warm. I didn’t expect it to be this beautiful.”
When the plane landed, everybody including the man stood up — but Kate noticed there was a delay for when he did, as if he was watching everyone first and taking note.
Kate turned her attention to the passengers ahead of her de-boarding and she reached into the overhead bins to grab her travel items. She then looked back at the man to wish him a good day, but noticed he wasn’t there… All she saw was the woman sitting in the window seat.
WHAT?
“[Kate] said there was no way this man could have slipped by her because she was standing in the aisle blocking their row. She says to the window passenger, ‘How did he get out of here?’ And the window passenger looked very confused. She was like, ‘Who?’ Kate’s like, ‘The man who was sitting between us the entire flight?’ … The window passenger just looked very confused. She said, ‘Honey, there was nobody sitting next to us.’”
Oh helllllll no!
Kate felt “crazy” after the revelation and began “looking around the plane frantically to explain” herself. It should be noted that Kate had “no history of mental illness” or nothing that could have explained what just happened for the last four hours. She couldn’t explain it. So she was forced to just de-board and go about her day.
Whoa…
Luckily, “nothing strange” has happened to Kate since — even at the same airport. But she still feels “crazy” about it to this day and wants to know if there’s a “logical explanation.” Otherwise, she believes that “some of the conspiracy theories about Denver International Airport are possibly true.”
