An individual potentially exposed to Ebola was narrowly prevented from entering the United States.
On Wednesday, an Air France flight headed to Detroit was abruptly rerouted when officials identified a passenger (not pictured above) — aboard the flight in “error” — who was linked to an Ebola breakout zone in Africa. Whoa!
According to Fox News Digital, the airplane (not pictured above) shifted course to instead land in Montreal, Canada, where the passenger, who had come from the Democratic Republic of Congo, was escorted off the flight. A US Customs and Border Protection spokesperson to Fox News Digital on Thursday:
“Due to entry restrictions put in place to reduce the risk of the Ebola virus, the passenger should not have boarded the plane.”
The spokesperson noted CBP “took decisive action” to prevent the aircraft from landing at the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport and potentially spreading the deadly virus.
Uhh… but what about all the other passengers? And what about where they go next???

In the wake of the outbreak, the Secretary of Homeland Security has ordered all US-bound travelers coming from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, or South Sudan — all outbreak hotspots — within the past 21 days, to undergo advanced screenings, including temperature checks and contact tracing. Additionally, flights carrying said passengers must be directed to the Washington–Dulles International Airport in Virginia.
The World Health Organization has reported that as of now, there are 139 suspected deaths and over 600 suspected infections as a result of the outbreak — which involves a rare substrain known as the Bundibugyo virus. WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus revealed in a statement on Wednesday that 51 cases alone have been confirmed in Congo, while two cases have been confirmed in Uganda. WHO special advisor Dr. Vasee Moorthy revealed a Bundibugyo vaccine will not be available for roughly six to nine months. As of now, “patient zero” has yet to be identified.
As the WHO has reported, the deadly virus is spread through contact with bodily fluids, including vomit, blood, and semen.
So scary! We can’t catch a break! Hantavirus AND Ebola scares in the same month?! WILD.
