They truly are BFFs!
Gayle King said that when she saw her pal Oprah Winfrey shed tears during her interview with Barbara Walters, she began crying too!
Gayle, who was watching the ABC special in a hotel room in Tasmania, explained:
“I had just ordered room service and I was sitting there and I watched it. And I called her and said, ‘I’m sitting in my room crying all by myself.’ I was just caught off guard. No one had asked me the question that way.”
During the special, Oprah described Gayle as the “mother I never had. She is…the sister everybody would want. She is the friend that everybody deserves.”
Gayle said that even though she always knew that Oprah valued their 30-year friendship, it was the first time she ever heard Oprah describe her that way. She added:
“Why would she say, ‘You’re the mother I never had?!’ Why would she say that to me? I know we mean a lot to each other, but no, we don’t go around expressing our love for each other. It just is.”
Aw, that’s so sweet! It’s making us tear up a little bit too! It must feel pretty amazing to hear your best friend say such beautiful things about you on national television.
