It took us a second to adjust to the idea, but the more and more we think about it….this MAY have some potential.
Will Smith is reported to be looking to produce a remake of the classic musical Annie – with his daughter Willow in the title role!
The actor, and his company Overbrook Entertainment, are developing the project with Sony, and have even reached out to Jay-Z, and have asked him to create original music for the flick, which is thought at this point to be a contemporary adaptation.
However, there’s no word yet on whether or not it will feature any of the musical’s original songs.
Wow!
Definitely a ballsy move to tamper with such a well-known, and much-loved classic, but we think that updating the story to modern times and focusing on the recession – maybe as a mirror to The Great Depression – with an updated sound could actually work! And work WELL!
We just hope that little Willow has the acting chops to carry such a huge story! People are not going to be happy if this flops!
