In fact, it might be CLOSING soon! Ouch!
When we first heard about Chris Rock’s first Broadway venture, The Motherf**ker With the Hat, we didn’t foresee any problems. It has a great cast, a great creative team and a great script. By all accounts, this show should have opened and smoothly sailed into the hearts of theater-goers.
Unfortunately, such is not the case. The show is actually in a lot of trouble. Seats just aren’t selling and there doesn’t seem to be anything anyone can do about it, including Chris!
Last week, while Chris was making appearances on some high-profile shows like The Late Show, the play only took in $239,000 with a gross potential of $867,000. Adding insult to injury, on Saturday night, went most shows couldn’t find room for their audience, “Motherf**ker” went up before just 600 people.
Damn! Not good – especially since its still in previews!
And here’s the worst of it:
Unless the show opens next week to rave reviews, it will close the following Sunday, no ifs, ands or buts.
Sad! First casualty of the season, it looks like!
