That’s quite the price tag, but the John Lennon album (a copy of Double Fantasy) that fetched $23k at auction happened to be signed by him just hours before he was shot dead:
The record – an edition of the former Beatles singer’s ‘Double Fantasy’ album, signed in December 1980 shortly before he was assassinated – was one of number of items of pop memorabilia which fetched almost ├é┬ú500,000 at auction in London yesterday (14.06.11).
Other items which went under the hammer included a guitar played by Pete Townshend from The Who on their American ‘Quadrophenia’ tour, which raised ├é┬ú31,250, a hat block used to make Michael Jackson‘s trademark fedoras, which sold for ├é┬ú8,125 and a bass drum wrecked by Kurt Cobain at the end of a show by Nirvana at the end of a 1991 concert, which fetched ├é┬ú8,125.
Those are impressive amounts, we have to say! People are really into memorabilia. Like, fanatically.
And if that’s the case, there’s another auction happening in El Lay next week… and it’ll be featuring MJ’s iconic red leather jacket from Thriller, which is expected to sell for $400k!
Whoever buys it should wear it around. You don’t drop half a mil just to look at it behind glass, that’s dumb!
LOLz!
