First Look At The New Production Of Rent!

And it’s not just the cast that has changed.

Original Tony-nominated director Michael Greif is bringing Rent back to the New York stage with an off-Broadway production of the modern classic by Jonathan Larson. The show will feature the same music and story, but Michael is prepared to do things more artistically with the costumes and stage design. He explains to Playbill Magazine:

“Over the years that I’ve watched the show, there were things I wanted to change. When we did it internationally or for tours, I made changes. This seemed like a chance for an overhaul. Working with a new choreographer, on a new set with new costumes and a new projection design, really invigorated me.”

Hopefully, die hard Rentheads will feel the same! At least the cast is impressive, with Annaleigh Ashford as Maureen, Adam Chanler-Berat as Mark and Arianda Fernandez as MiMi. Vanity Fair actually got a sneak peek at the production (opening Aug. 11 at the New World Stages) so have a looksie at the gallery (below) to see some of the changes made.
