That’ll do it!
Sources report that Simon Cowell is encouraging the upcoming UK X Factor contestants to have hit the bottle hard this season in an effort to create more, um, compelling drama on the show.
The boozing for ratings ploy started last night as 250 hopefuls were passed around free champagne and cocktails after checking into the four-star Selsdon Park hotel in Croydon, South London, where they’ll be staying through auditions/eliminations. Once they had their fill of the gin and juice, the contestants were all invited to a raging pool party, where things could potentially get pretty wild.
But it doesn’t end! Sources reveal that the ploys to spice up the show will extend to the finalist’s mansion. Simon has okayed camera installation in every one of the bedrooms. As an insider explains:
“Producers want scandal, sex and break-ups. They know it will freshen up the series and boost ratings. The house is going to be one long party for the singers. And it will all be filmed to titillate viewers.”
And titillate it sounds like it might, but this is X Factor, not The Jersey Shore. There’s a time and place (or specifically a type of show) that those kinds of antics are far more appropriate practice on. Leave the X alone!
Of course, a spokesman for the show denied the allegations, saying:
“We take our responsibilities extremely seriously and the welfare of our contestants is of paramount importance. The welcome party was strictly supervised and the finalists house will be too.”
Oh yes! Very well supervised with all those cameras around. We gotcha. We gotcha.
