The National Geographic Channel will be premiering a new show on April 1 about…tuna fishing?!?
No, this isn’t an April Fools’ joke!
The new series is somewhat similar to Deadliest Catch, only Wicked Tuna will follow a group of bluefin tuna fishermen in Massachusetts.
Bluefin tuna isn’t just ANY chicken of the sea — one HUGE fish could rake in $10,000 or more!!! The tuna can grow to be eight feet long and can weigh up to ONE THOUSAND pounds!
Don’t expect the show to be a drama-filled battle over bluefin, though…fishermen are encouraged to work together and closely follow fishing regulations.
Nat Geo hopes the show will bring awareness to the future of the tuna, seeing as its population is now a quarter of what it used to be. Other countries’ lack of regulations have led to overfishing, which is why U.S. fishermen are required to use handlines instead of big nets.
