Makin’ history, y’all!
Texas may not be the most progressive place when it comes to every social issue, but the Supreme Court is doing everything it can to usher the Lone Star State into this century.
That’s because a 5-3 vote on Monday just blocked an anti-abortion law from passing, meaning most of the women’s clinics in Texas will no longer have to close!

Essentially, the law radically changed the standards for clinics, meaning any abortion clinics that weren’t in hospitals would be forced to shut their doors.
Justice Stephen Breyer spoke for the majority in a statement regarding the landmark case, saying:
“There was no significant health-related problem that the new law helped to cure. We agree with the District Court that the surgical-center requirement, like the admitting-privileges requirement, provides few, if any, health benefits for women, poses a substantial obstacle to women seeking abortions, and constitutes an ‘undue burden’ on their constitutional right to do so.”
We couldn’t agree more!
Never one to skip out on the conversation, Hillary Clinton reacted to the good news on Twitter, personally penning:
SCOTUS’s decision is a victory for women in Texas and across America. Safe abortion should be a right├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥not just on paper, but in reality. -H

This fight isn’t over: The next president has to protect women’s health. Women won’t be “punished” for exercising their basic rights. -H

This decision is being called the biggest step forward for women’s rights since Roe v. Wade… so it’s nice to know Hill is so happy about the news!
Now if we could only do something about all those guns…
