Amal Clooney Impresses During First U.S. TV Interview -- Admits New 'Celeb' Status Helps Raise Awareness For Her Causes!

Amal Clooney is so much more than George Clooney‘s wife!
On Thursday, the human rights attorney sat down with NBC News for her first ever U.S. solo television interview — and boy, was this in no way a fluff piece.
In fact, the 37-year-old almost didn’t acknowledge the existence of her A-list spouse as she chatted with Cynthia McFadden about her latest client. Amal is representing the former Maldives leader Mohamed Nasheed, who is currently in jail on a terrorism charge. Whoa!

Though Miz Clooney may not consider herself a celebrity, she is somewhat grateful for the limelight she’s been given as it helps her raise awareness for her causes:

“I think it’s wonderful that celebrities would choose to spend their time or energy or the spotlight that they have to raise awareness about these causes. I don’t really see myself in the same way because I’m still doing the same job that I used to before. If there’s more attention paid for whatever reason to that, then I think that’s good.”

Well said! Still, it appears the Oxford educated lawyer understands that with the attention comes great responsibility.
Amal added:

“I think there is a certain amount of responsibility that comes with that. And I think I’m exercising it in an appropriate manner by continuing to do this kind of work.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves! The activist seems to be making excellent head way as she’s met with several U.S. politicians — including Senator John McCain, Senator Patrick Leahy, and the Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Tom Malinowski.
Color us impressed! Be sure to ch-ch-check out the entire, empowering interview for yourself (below)!
