It’s so hot at the Australian Open!
How hot is it?!
It’s so hot that player’s are throwing up, ball boys are needing medical treatment and one player’s water bottle started to melt onto the court.
Thats not a joke. Those are all facts and are potentially posing risks to the health of players.
The temperature is just about 106 degrees Fahrenheit and it’s super intense.
A Canadian qualifier, Frank Dancevic, actually fainted on the court!!
He finds the extreme heat to be making the competition unfair, saying:
“I think it’s inhumane, I don’t think it’s fair to anybody, to the players, to the fans, to the sport, when you see players pulling out of matches, passing out. Having players with so many problems and complaining to the tournament that it’s too hot to play, until somebody dies, they’re just keep going on with it and putting matches on in this heat.”
China’s Peng Shuai was another player affected├óΓé¼┬ª she literally threw up on the court!
Tim Wood, the tournament’s chief medical officer, said:
“A lot of people get hot and look distressed. The actual risk to the health is relatively small compared with other sports.”
Yeah, but if people are passing out and vomiting├óΓé¼┬ª that doesn’t sound particularly healthy.
Maybe move today’s matches to a day that’s a little less scorching.
