Terri Irwin is ready to put herself back out there, but does she have the full support of her children?
As you know, back in September 2006, Steve Irwin tragically died after a stingray’s barb pierced his heart while filming a documentary in the Great Barrier Reef. He was only 44. The news of his death came as a total shock at the time, as many couldn’t believe a man who wrestled crocodiles had been killed by a normally gentle creature. It also, as expected, caused a lot of pain and heartbreak for his wife Terri. She not only lost her husband of 14 years but also had to then raise their two young children, Robert and Bindi, on her own.

Following his death, the 61-year-old conservationist never moved on with another man. Terri said she couldn’t picture herself dating again in 2021 because Steve had been her “big, big love,” one “to last a lifetime.” Something we’re sure a lot of widows can relate to.

Even last year, she insisted she would never date again! But time heals, as they say, and it sounds like the Australia Zoo owner has changed her mind. Terri is reportedly getting back out there, nearly 20 years after Steve’s death! A source told RadarOnline on Thursday:
“Terri has spent years completely devoted to her family and to carrying on Steve’s legacy. There just wasn’t any room in her life for anything else. But things have shifted lately. Her children have taken on much of the responsibility for the family’s zoo so she’s got a lot more space to focus on herself.”
And thankfully, Bindi and Robert are on board with their momma finding a new partner! In fact, the insider said they have been the ones encouraging her to do so:
“They’re actually the ones pushing her to look for a companion. They don’t think it’s right that she’s alone and they’re sure their dad wouldn’t want that.”
Terri just hadn’t been ready to date until recently, though. The insider added:
“Even a few years ago, Terri was closed off to the idea of dating, but she’s finally agreed to at least give it a shot.”
Aww! And although Terri is out looking again, she knows whoever ends up in her life will never replace Steve in her heart:
“She’s still very clear that Steve will always be the love of her life so anyone who comes into her world would have to understand that. It’s not exactly a situation where she’s running at this full bore, but at least she’s open to trying. That’s a huge step for her.”
