Call it the end of an era!!
Stage legend Barry Humphries has decided to retire his famous character, Dame Edna!
At age 78, Barry feels like it’s time to move on and has announced that his new stage show, Eat Pray Laugh! will be his final curtain call.
So sad!!!
Barry recalls:
“Look, the fact of the matter is that I’m beginning to feel a bit senior. I love it and it’s healthy for me. It’s the best aerobics you could do, leaping around on stage, but it’s gruelling when there are other things to do.├óΓé¼┬¥
The other things that Humphries wants to accomplish in his retirement include writing another book, traveling to new places and painting.
Barry said he doesn’t want to “outlive his shelf life” but suggests that while Dame Edna won’t appear in live shows, there’s still a chance you may see her on TV. He is set to retire his other beloved characters, Sir Les Patterson and Sandy Stone, as well.
The actor wants to make this new and final live tour his BEST and it will all begin in Australia on June 22!!
We will forever miss that fabulous purple wig!!!
