L.A. Law actor Blair Underwood is going to be making his Broadway debut in A Streetcar Named Desire!
The two time Golden Globe nominee and Grammy Award winner will be playing Stanley in Tennessee Williams’ most famous play.
Does such a famous role make Blair nervous?
According to him … nope.
He explains:

“I feel the most comfortable on stage. I started my career doing local dinner theater in high school.
I├óΓé¼Γäóm grateful my film and television career took off, but every opportunity I get to get back on the boards in front of a live audience, I jump at it.”

If you haven’t guessed it already, this is a special production. It features a multiracial cast.
Daphne Ruben-Vega (from Rent) will play Stanley’s wife Stella, Ari Nicole Parker (from Soul Food) will play Stella’s sister Blanche DuBois and Wood Harris (from The Wire) will be playing Blanche’s beau, Mitch.
Underwood said:

“It├óΓé¼Γäós an idea whose time has come. Some people think Williams would be turning over in his grave, but that├óΓé¼Γäós so not the case.”

It’s actually true that there was an all black version of the play back in the 50s and Tennessee Williams and his estate have been completely fine with multicultural casts.
We’re sure it’ll be an amazing production.
Think U might be making a trip to Broadway to see Streetcar??
