Britney Spears‘ fun in the sun has caused more trouble than expected!
As we previously reported, the pop star was spotted in El Lay late last week, hanging out of the sunroof of her Mercedes as it was on the 101 freeway. The pictures showed her blonde locks blowing in the wind as she let the sun kiss her skin. An insider said it was just “good, clean fun” for a Louisiana girl, she herself even said it was NBD — but Brit is in California with lots of eyes on her! So that made things more complicated.
So much so that the police reportedly contacted her with a warning. According to Naughty But Nice on Substack, an insider told Rob Shuter on Sunday:
“This wasn’t just a courtesy call. Given Britney’s recent legal issues, authorities felt they had to reach out. They wanted to send a very clear message that behavior like this is dangerous and can’t happen again.”
As you know, the Toxic singer was recently in trouble with the law for a DUI. And even though her case was resolved with a “wet reckless” plea, the cops are still concerned. But a pal is coming to her defense!
Another source said:
“Britney believed traffic had slowed to a crawl. She wasn’t trying to be reckless or make headlines. She simply didn’t stop to think about how risky it looked — or how quickly something could have gone wrong.”

Britney even came to her own defense, blasting the outrage on her IG, saying it’s coming from “two seconds of insanity”:
“Nothing is what it seems.”
A separate source said her inner circle is still “rooting for” her:
“No one wants to see history repeat itself. The hope is that this serves as a wake-up call before a harmless-looking stunt turns into something no one can undo.”
Understandable. We all just want the best for Britney and for her to be safe!
This whole ordeal has caused such an uproar, though, her controversial ex manager Sam Lutfi is weighing in on it. And he told DailyMail.com it’s a bunch of BS and that no one should be so up in arms about it. He said:
“She’s a human being before she’s a celebrity. People are very quick to judge, especially when it’s Britney.”
Sam also said “social media isn’t someone’s medical chart” and he’s not going “to diagnose [or] criticize” Britney for what she did. Despite the Oops… I Did It Again! singer having such a complicated history with him, getting restraining orders against him in 2008 and 2019, he’s coming up to bat for her:
“She’s already spent her life under a microscope, so why don’t we show her the same grace we’d want for ourselves, period? I wish her nothing but the best.”
An anonymous insider also told the outlet the sunroof incident wasn’t an issue because she “wanted to see what the traffic was about up ahead because the cars came to a stop”:
“She used to do this all the time as a kid growing up in the South, she loves having the warm wind blow through her hair in the summer, it’s fun. She is having a fun summer and is happy, she is in a good place. If it’s illegal to put your head through a sunroof, she doesn’t know it! She didn’t mean to do anything bad.”
