Britney Spears Talks About Conservatorship In Scrapped Interview Clip From 2016! Watch!

Britney Spears spoke about her conservatorship on TV eight years ago… But the footage is only now coming to light.

On Saturday, ITV aired a special looking back on memorable moments from The Jonathan Ross Show, including a never-before-seen clip of the pop star getting candid about her then-conservatorship. Referring to her 2016 album Glory, Jonathan asks:

“The new album, you are more involved in this musically, I understand, than previous ones? So you’ve taken control. You’re more in control of your music than before? Why did it take you so long? Why did you wait ’til now to do it?”

Treading water tactfully, Britney responds:

“Well, um, there’s a lot of reasons, but I won’t get into the whole story.”

Jonathan then says “we know a lot about stories so we don’t have to go over the whole story,” before the Circus singer really drops her guard:

“Well, it was like a thing. Since the conservatorship — I’m in a conservatorship, this is the third year of me being under that — I felt like a lot of the things were planned for me to do and, you know, being told what to do. And I was just like, for this [album], I want to make it my baby, and I want to do it myself, and I was very strategic about the way I did it, and, um, yeah, that’s why it means so much to me.”

Jonathan then asks if she was in a good place, and she responds, “Yes sir.” Watch the clip (below):

At the time, Britney’s team did not allow her to speak publicly about the conservatorship so the clip ended up being cut from the final edit. As we know, the Toxic singer’s finances, health, business, and more were controlled by her father Jamie Spears for years. However in November 2021, her conservatorship finally came to an end. And in her 2023 memoir The Woman in Me, the 42-year-old seemingly addressed the scrapped interview, writing:

“I even mentioned the conservatorship on a talk show in 2016, but somehow that part of the interview didn’t make it to the air. Huh, How interesting.”
