The review embargo for the CATS movie is still up, but those who have seen it are allowed to give the vaguest impressions on Twitter.
And OMG the emotions are already all over the place!
We’ve seen the big screen adaptation of the long-running Broadway staple called everything from “spectacular” to a “mess,” from “utter insanity” to “unspeakably horny.”

Sounds like this thing is going to be a MUST WATCH to us! LOLz!
See some of the strongest reactions — though honestly there are apparently no mild reactions to this one (below)!
Actor Ben Mekler:
“Uh, #Cats is kinda great? Everything that seemed weird in the trailers just melts away when you’re watching the film. It’s magical and just plain works with the sole exception of Taylor Swift’s original song about the cats devouring the corpse of an old woman who died in her flat.”
Variety‘s Caroline Framke:
“It brings me no pleasure to report that CATS is way too horny for its own good”
AwardsWatch‘s Erik Anderson:
“CATS is a glorious, fantastical, jellicle mess and all the better for it. Jason Derulo and Jennifer Hudson are legitimately good but Dame Judi Dench is so bizarre and insane in this. It deserves to be a Rocky Horror midnight movie for generations. #CatsMovie”
Variety‘s Ramin Setoodeh:
“Having seen #CatsMovie, the Academy’s failure to include ‘Beautiful Ghosts’ on the original song shortlist was a bad move. Obviously, voters left it off because ‘Cats’ hadn’t screened yet. But the song — a bookend to ‘Memory’ — is great. I already can’t get it out of my head.”
Broadway star Alan Henry:
“The CATS movie is the strangest, most bewildering, queerest, magical, and spectacular cinematic experience I have ever had. I am not sure what just happened but I know that it was something worth experiencing.”
The Mary Sue writer Brittany Knupper:
“Watching #CatsMovie is like attending a dinner party hosted by your polyamorous friends. You spend the whole time worried that it is 2 minutes away from turning into an orgy.”
Variety‘s Rebecca Rubin:
“#CatsMovie is 120 minutes of pure and utter insanity and I may never sleep again”
Collider‘s Vinnie Mancuso:
“Since everyone else is tweeting about it, CATS is only bad in a fun way for about 30 minutes, after which I was praying to every god I could remember to strike that theater with an asteroid
Can confirm it is unspeakably horny for cats and bafflingly insists that you must be too”
