Charlie Sheen is speaking out!

The TV star who of course revealed to the world his HIV diagnosis last month is talking about the blackmail he endured from those around him during a very trying time.

Speaking to reporters about his experiences with unsavory companions before he revealed his diagnosis, Sheen talked about what made him so trusting to have to endure blackmail in the first place. He shared with Radar Online:

“They didn’t fully reveal themselves to be unsavory and insipid types until after they broke my trust and went after me. It seems like everyone was having a grand old time until it went treasonous. They come in all shapes and sizes, you know.”

Sheen also admitted that paying people off was probably the right decision for him at that point in his life — before he went on national TV and spoke with Matt Lauer publicly about the disease:

“I was trying to protect my privacy. I didn’t want to be forced into revealing my condition based on somebody else’s greed or folly … I still believe, at the time with what was going on, it was the right decision (to pay the people off).”

And for Sheen, the thought of going to the police for the blackmail wasn’t a legitimate option.

He admits he only settled in civil proceedings or out of court with less than ten people during the entire ordeal:

“Of course, I thought about [going to the police]. But then reports would have been filed and discovered. All that stuff would have violated the whole privacy part of it, in the end.”

When it’s all said and done, though, Sheen does have regrets — just not about the situation surrounding his blackmail:

“You know, hindsight is 20/20, right? I should have thought of it a little bit more. I mean, there’s nothing I can do to change [the HIV diagnosis]. But I should have been more responsible and more concerned for myself.”

Amen to that.
