Chris Cornell‘s suicide is just so hard to understand. And to his widow Vicky it’s “inexplicable.”
In a statement early on Friday, she specifically mentioned her husband telling her he had taken “an extra Ativan or two” and that he was “slurring his words.”
The Cornells’ attorney Kirk Pasich concurred, saying the family was “disturbed at inferences that Chris knowingly and intentionally took his life.”

The family is apparently looking to blame the prescription medication and are hoping the full autopsy results support their case that Chris’ suicide was not his own idea.
It may sound bizarre for a drug used to treat anxiety, but one of the listed side effects of Ativan, the brand name of lorazepam, is suicidal ideation and suicide attempts.
Many on Twitter following the story were quick to support Vicky’s position, including fans, doctors, and recovering addicts:
