Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale aren’t coming back for another Batman movie to follow The Dark Knight Rises, but they are throwing their full support behind another version!
The director of the epic trilogy even gave out some free advice to whoever decides to helm the reboot and explained:
“When I first met with Paul Levitz of DC Comics prior to Batman Begins, he explained to me clearly that Batman, of all superheroes, has thrived on reinterpretation and almost is strengthened by it. I’m talking about over the years in the comic books but also in the movies. So when the time is right, whenever someone does whatever the next iteration of the character is, they simply need to be true.”
Bale is probably the most enthusiastic of all about another interpretation of the character he broke box office records with. While chatting it up with MTV, Bruce Wayne himself said:
“I’m very intrigued to see another interpretation of it at this point … It would be very interesting to see what someone else does with the character. I’d be the first one in there to watch.”
It sounds like he doesn’t want to watch the series to continue where it left off though.
(SPOILER ALERT!!!!!! STOP READING NOW IF YOU HAVEN”T SEEN THE MOVIE YET)
Even though the final minutes of the film revealed that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was, in fact, on his way to become Robin, Bale never approved. Pointing out that it was not his decision, he joked:
“Regardless of what my wishes would have been, it was not my choice and never was.”
Well, we loved the ending anyway and are kind of hoping they’ll continue with Gordon-Levitt’s character, but who knows what Warner Bros. will decide to do in 10 4 years!
