Entire College Rugby Team Dismantled For Sexist Chant... Right On The Heels Of $20,000 Fine Towards Professional Player Over Gay Slurs

This was not a great day for the world of Rugby.
University of Mary Washington‘s Rugby team was officially disbanded on Monday following a leaked video of some of the teammates singing a sexist song that glorified rape and necrophilia.
Apparently, back in November, eight members from the school’s club Rugby team were at a party off-campus when they started to sing a drinking chant that eventually made its way to administration.
In addition to being dissolved, the entire team was forced to take sexual assault prevention classes, despite 38 of the 46 members being out of state at the time when the following was recorded:

“Finally found a whore. She was right and dead. Well, goddamn son of a bitch we’re gonna get it in!”

The news comes right after a professional Rugby player from Australia made headlines for using using homophobic speech on the pitch.

Jacques Potgieter (see above) of the New South Wales Waratahs was fined $20,000 for using a gay slur in a match on Sunday, and he has since apologized.
While the stories are purely coincidental, they certainly don’t do much good for Rugby as a subculture.
