Well, this sure is a major courtroom development…
Sean “Diddy” Combs has scored a significant legal victory after a federal judge dismissed the civil lawsuit filed by former Danity Kane and Diddy-Dirty Money member Dawn Richard. The ruling, which first emerged on Monday, appears to shut the door on nearly all of Richard’s claims in federal court and marks the latest twist in the long-running legal battles surrounding the music mogul.

According to a report first from TMZ on Monday, the judge in the case determined that most of Richard’s claims were filed after the applicable statute of limitations had expired. As a result, those claims were dismissed and generally cannot be brought again in federal court. However, one claim connected to copyright issues was treated differently. The court ruled that Richard could pursue that particular matter in New York state court… if she chooses to do so.
As readers may recall, Richard filed her lawsuit in September of 2024. In her complaint, she alleged that she witnessed troubling behavior during her time working with Combs and claimed she encouraged his then-girlfriend Cassie to leave the relationship because of what she allegedly observed. Richard also made allegations regarding working conditions, claiming she endured extended periods without sleep due to demands placed on her. And, she also further alleged that Combs inappropriately touched her at a recording studio.
Combs has denied the allegations, and his legal team has consistently pushed back against Richard’s claims. And now, the did it again! Following news of the dismissal, Combs’ attorney Erica Wolff issued a strongly worded statement to TMZ about it:
“In an attempt to rewrite history, Dawn Richard has now manufactured a series of false claims all in the hopes of trying to get a payday — conveniently timed to coincide with her album release and press tour.”
Wolff also said:
“If Ms. Richard had such a negative experience with Making the Band and Danity Kane, she would not have chosen to continue working directly with Mr. Combs for Dirty Money, nor would she have returned for the Making the Band reboot in 2020 or agreed to be featured on The Love Album last year.”
Well…
The dismissal is especially noteworthy because Richard has remained a figure in the broader conversation surrounding Combs. She was also among the witnesses who testified during his criminal trial, obviously making her allegations part of a much larger and highly scrutinized saga.

For now, though, this ruling represents a clear win for Diddy in federal court. Whether Richard decides to continue pursuing the remaining copyright-related claim in state court remains to be seen, but at least for now, Diddy got a rare W.
