Friends close to DJ AM have told officials that the day before his death, he had announced he would be going to rehab, as he had relapsed and was heavily using drugs.
The insiders told investigators that on the day before his death, his West Coast manager and recovery sponsor flew to NYC to see DJ AM (aka Adam Goldstein) to discuss his erratic behavior in the previous weeks. When they arrived at his apartment, DJ AM only let his sponsor inside.
That’s when, to the horror of his friend, DJ AM “lit up a crack pipe and popped pills” right in front of him.
From there, he promised his manager and sponsor that after his gig in Las Vegas last Friday, he would check himself into a rehab in California. But, as we know, he never made it to that performance as he was found dead the next day.
Though the cause of death won’t be determined for a few more weeks, it is sad to think that if it was drugs that killed him, he was on his way to salvation, but was just too late.
Very sad.
