Things haven’t been easy for Ellen DeGeneres over the last few years… In terms of career OR personal life!
First she was canceled over the toxic work environment she allegedly created on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Unlike most “canceled” celebs she actually suffered a MAJOR hit to her career because of it — one she really hasn’t been able to come back from. Maybe it’s because her whole brand was being “nice” and that was a lie?
So what did she do? For a huge change, she packed up and moved to the UK. And according to an insider, if she hadn’t put in the work and made such a big change, another area of her life would have been uprooted: her marriage to Portia de Rossi!
On Tuesday, a source told DailyMail.com:
“Ellen and Portia have had their share of ups and downs and had to fight to make it work for so long. Things have been very rocky ever since the show cancelation because, understandably, this shook Ellen. She went from being loved by everyone to the target for hatred. She used to be the breadwinner, head of the household — and now she struggles to book work.”
Yeah, that probably has taken a MAJOR toll on her ego, which can’t be easy to watch as her partner. But not a dealbreaker:
“They are not going to give up on each other just because there is a grey cloud looming. There is a lot of love left between them.”
That’s good to hear… Ellen still needs SOMEONE in her corner, right? They’ve been together for 20 years! But will their recent move to Cotswolds, England be too much for their relationship to bear? A second insider told the outlet:
“They moved to the UK for a fresh start. It was a big step and will be a test of their relationship, but it was one that was needed. Portia is interested in doing some theater, but mostly they are looking forward to spending their life together away from Hollywood.”
Ellen may have joked about being “kicked out of show business” in her latest comedy special, but it sounds like she really took it to heart… Especially after failing to sell tickets.
The insider added:
“She has the one person that still loves her, Portia, and she is ready to leave everyone who in her mind left her hanging out to dry. If she considers it her retirement, so be it. An enormous part of the US doesn’t like her because of her sexual preferences, and others were turned off by her persona, which some perceived to be fake in the wake of the work place allegations. For Ellen, it’s easier to move away from her problems than to confront them. It seems like a sad end to what she once was in people’s minds.”
That’s certainly one way to handle things. She’ll have to dry her tears on her millions of dollars we guess. Sorry, pounds now.
