Ellen Page Says Being In The Closet Hurt Her Career 'Way More Than Coming Out'!

Ellen Page has maintained her place in the public eye ever since she starred as the titular character in 2007’s Juno, but according to the recently out star, she’s only just begun to enjoy herself!
The 29-year-old stopped by SXSW on Saturday to promote her new Viceland docu-series Gaycation, and got a little emotional about the LGBT community both here in Hollywood and around the world.

Ellen famously came out publicly back in 2014, and confided in fans at the Texan festival that staying in the closet for so long actually hurt her career!
Alongside her BFF/costar Ian Daniel, Ellen admitted that she loves getting to work as her true “authentic self,” saying :

“Being in the closet hurt my career way more than coming out.
There can be such loneliness and isolation when you’re living in a society that has this view of, ‘you’re different, or something’s wrong, or you’re sinful.’ We can’t just be telling stories about one group of people. People need to have opportunity, and that’s what’s going to make the whole industry grow and blossom. It’s just something I’ve been reflecting on as to, ‘Oh, what if I hadn’t come out?’
I think a lot about those who are much more vulnerable than me all around the world and in the United States, and here’s an opportunity to go make something that allows voices to be heard that you sometimes never hear, and hopefully reflect struggles that a lot of people go through and I think a lot of people simply don’t know about.
I feel so in love with what I do again. And I feel so grateful for that.”

We’re so happy she’s loving life out of the closet!
Hopefully this literally opens the doors for younger people to find their true selves earlier in life.
