Ellen Page Opens Up On Her 'Toxic' Past In The Closet & What It Felt Like To Finally Come Out

Ellen Page
is a whole new woman.
Following Ellen’s cathartic coming out in February 2014, the actress has become an LGBT rights activist and even scored a girlfriend. While the tiny Canadian is way happier than she was in the past, she admitted life prior to her public revelation was extremely difficult.

The Juno star explained:

“I was just done. It’s so toxic to just be hiding; it becomes so consuming without you even knowing it’s consuming you. You become so complacent in this reality you create. It’s like a bucket, and it’s filling up and filling up and filling up ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ and finally it just spills over. And I felt guilty for not being out for the LGBT community. I was like, ├óΓé¼╦£Dude, just say you’re gay.'”

Ugh, that life sounds SO difficult. We’re just glad Page was able to find the courage to be herself!
The dog enthusiast added:

“For me, it was a great opportunity to be honest, to share certain elements of the pain that I went through. The reality is, there are very few young people out as actors, so I was hoping to speak to a lot of the issues so it wouldn’t just seem like, ‘Hey, look, I’m gay.'”

Hopefully Ellen paved the way for other actors and actresses to come out. Hollywood could use a little more honesty!
Elaborating on earlier fears that her sexuality would hinder her career, the actress revealed:

“If someone was like, ├óΓé¼╦£Hey, you’re never going to be in a movie ever again’, I would have done it anyway.”

Woot! What an amazing attitude — you can’t put a price on freedom!
Congrats on doing you, girl!
