Don’t know how this will fare with the revival of Evita on the way!
Davie Byrne and Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim, are looking to invade Broadway with Here Lies Love, a disco opera exploring the life of former first lady of the Philippines, Imelda Marcos.
The duo have spent the better part of the last five years recording 22 songs for the “song cycle,” devoted to looking at “Marcos├óΓé¼Γäós love of the disco she danced to with Warhol and other fashionistas in Studio 54, all the while overseeing a harsh regime of martial law back home in the heyday of the Marcos kleptocracy.”
The songs have already had a few low-key listens at several art festivals and a double CD of the music is set to release fairly soon, with performances by Cyndi Lauper and Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine.
Now, David is looking to take it a step further.
Like we said, with Evita on the rise once again, it may face some heavy competition. We’d have to hear the music first before we could decide if it could stand on it’s own against it.
