What makes an ideal flight attendant? One who keeps your drink full, replenishes your snack collection, and oh yeah… protects you from violent outbursts!
Shocking footage of an Alaska Airlines flight has amassed a TON of attention online as it depicts an attendant absolutely WAILING on a passenger! Seriously! Like, MMA style! But, you know… for a good reason!
According to the airline, the passenger in question was experiencing some sort of “violent medical episode” on the February 1 flight from Oakland to Portland which led him to physically lash out on fellow passengers and crew members. Particularly on one woman in front of him whose hair he clenched in his fist and refused to release! So, the no-bulls**t attendant rushed over to confront him, demanding he release the woman’s hair immediately. But when he didn’t, that’s when the crew member pinned the passenger’s face back against his seat and began doling out punch after punch to the suspect’s body. Mind you, this all took place on the tarmac before the flight ever even had the chance to take off! We guess that’s a good thing, though… Imagine being trapped 30,000+ feet in the air with this dude!
It’s not clear what initiated his medical meltdown, but luckily the victimized woman was eventually able to free herself without too much harm while the attendant restrained the suspect until police arrived. Following the incident, Alaska Airlines issued the following statement:
“On Feb. 1, Alaska Airlines Flight 2221, operated by Horizon Air, from Oakland to Portland returned to the gate before departure due to an incident involving a passenger. He appeared to be experiencing a violent medical episode that involved an ongoing physical assault against other passengers and our crew. Our flight attendants’ highest responsibility is the safety of guests and crew on board. Our crew responded to this chaotic situation quickly and kept all guests safe until law enforcement could intervene. At this time, the guest in question has been banned from Alaska and Horizon due to the nature of the physical assault.”
Alaska Airlines also informed TMZ the violent passenger has been banned “due to the nature of the physical assault,” while the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA has celebrated the crew member for stopping “a violent passenger from continued physical assault of another passenger.”
Now, the situation has taken off from local law and landed on the front door of the FBI! According to the San Francisco branch, the Bureau is “aware of the incident and appropriate steps will be taken to determine if a violation of federal law has occurred,” according to TMZ.
Yikes… It sounds like this dude is in some pretty deep s**t. Meanwhile someone should give the flight attendant a medal! Or maybe a gold hair clip…
